Percussionist Stephen Tipping is a multi-faceted artist located in the Greater Philadelphia & Delaware Valley region. His range of musical expression, from energetic highs to subtle shades, stems from wide latitudes of experiences and training.

Finished another show with Archmere this weekend featuring the second go around of Drowsy Chaperone. Played the drum book this time, and really leaned into the 1920’s trap kit mood with a 26” 1960s Ludwig metal scotch bass drum on the floor and my 1950s WFL Super Classic snare. Really captured the early musical theater sound more than a modern kit would!

Fun show, enjoyed it both times around.

A bit late, but last Sunday was the third service week at a different church, this time Grace Lutheran Church in Hockessin, DE. It was great to be part of another service, this time with a High School friend at the keys.

Music filled weekend! Friday was the much anticipated (and oft delayed) Wilmington Community Orchestra concert. Saturday was closing night at Newark Charter’s production of Drowsy Chaperone. Finally, Sunday church service at the reopened Overbrook Presbyterian Church (in the Fellowship Hall while repairs continue).

The season has started! Friday was rehearsal, but Saturday was the holiday cabaret with the The Choir School of Delaware! Still more holiday fun to come, starting with a performance Sunday at Faith Presbyterian Church in Wilmington.

Happy first concert of the season for Wilmington Community Orchestra! Joined them on Franz Suppé’s Light Calvary March, but a spectacular concert all around!

Due to the rain, the outdoor Concert in the Park was moved indoors, but that didn’t stop the Philly Civic Orchestra from swinging! A great concert in a beautiful church really made those Dike Ellington arrangements sing. And, it made for a good reason to bring out the 1950’s WFL Buddy Rich Super Classic vintage snare to bring out all the brush work.

Last night was the conclusion of the Delaware All-State concert series, and it was so great to watch my student and DYSO percussionist Bonnie Law complete her THIRD All-State concert this year as first chair Mallet Percussion and the solo Timpani chair for Senior Band (and Orchestra)!
Bonnie was also accepted into all three college programs she applied for and decided on attending UD as a percussion major in the Fall!
Congrats to Bonnie and all of the young musicians involved in the Delaware All-State program!

Thank you so much to Tom Blanchard, Rich Trelease, and Larry Beers for sharing your vast knowledge with our young percussionists, and thank you to the All-American Alumni Band and their sponsors for providing the support that made this Masterclass possible!
